Strong began performing in Chicago theater and improv scenes after college. She was discovered while performing with the all-female improv group Virgin Daiquiri and joined Saturday Night Live as a featured player in 2012, becoming a repertory player the following season. She remained on the show until December 2022, co-anchoring Weekend Update early in her tenure and creating memorable characters and impressions (including the “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party,” Melania Trump, and others).
