Career

Athing Mu showed exceptional talent from a young age. In 2018 she won silver in the 800m at the Youth Olympic Games. In 2019 she set an American indoor record and world under-20 best in the 600m (1:23.57) and won gold at the Pan American Junior Championships.

At Texas A&M she dominated collegiate competition, setting records and winning multiple NCAA titles. She turned professional and, at age 19, won the 800m at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At the Tokyo Olympics she claimed gold in the 800m (setting an American record) and anchored the U.S. women’s 4×400m relay to gold.

In 2022 she became the first American woman to win the World Championships 800m title and the youngest woman to hold both Olympic and world titles in an individual track event simultaneously.
