Kurious was born Jorge Antonio Alvarez on May 1, 1970, in New York City. He is 56 years old. He grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (specifically the Manhattan Valley area near 97th Street and Amsterdam Avenue). Of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, he has spoken about his mother’s influence—she arrived in New York as a young orphan from Puerto Rico and later earned a master’s degree while raising her family.

Kurious began rapping in the late 1980s as part of the Constipated Monkeys crew (which included connections to KMD members). Early appearances included work with Powerule and a feature on Pete Nice & DJ Richie Rich’s 1993 album Dust to Dust. Supported by Pete Nice and influential DJ Bobbito Garcia, he signed with their Hoppoh imprint (distributed by Columbia/Sony).
His debut single “Walk Like a Duck” arrived in 1992, followed by the critically acclaimed debut album A Constipated Monkey in 1994. Produced largely by The Beatnuts, the project showcased witty, humorous rhymes over boom-bap beats and is regarded as an underground classic of the era. Despite positive reception, a difficult major-label contract led to a long gap in solo releases.
He continued contributing features, most notably appearing on MF DOOM’s landmark 1999 album Operation: Doomsday (on the track “?”) and working with the Monsta Island Czars collective under the alias Biolante. After leaving his Sony deal, he released his second solo album II in 2009 via Amalgam Digital.
In the 2020s he became more prolific. Releases include Koncrete Jungle (2021), Monkeyman (2023), Majician (2024, executive-produced by MF DOOM before his death and issued via Metal Face Records / Rhymesayers Entertainment), and God’s Time (2025). He has also issued singles and continued collaborations. His style remains rooted in technical lyricism, humor, and personal reflection.
