Career
While performing stand-up comedy in Minneapolis, Chaplin met Michael J. Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl. During the third season of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Nelson invited him to try out as a writer. Chaplin was given footage from the film Daddy-O to “riff” on and impressed the team enough to be hired by Best Brains.
He wrote for MST3K from Season 3 through the end of the original run and beyond, contributing to more than 100 episodes. In addition to writing, he appeared on-screen as several recurring characters, most notably:
