Career Journey
Anita Ekberg moved to Hollywood in the early 1950s after her Miss Sweden success. She signed with Universal Pictures and appeared in small roles in films like Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953) and The Golden Blade (1953). She gained more visibility with Blood Alley (1955) opposite John Wayne and Artists and Models (1955) with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
Her career peaked with Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960), where her fountain scene became one of cinema’s most iconic images. She continued working in both European and American productions throughout the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in films such as The Mongols (1961), Call Me Bwana (1963), The Alphabet Murders (1965), and 4 for Texas (1963). By the late 1970s her film roles became less frequent, and she largely retired from acting in the 1980s, living quietly in Italy. She made occasional cameo appearances and was honored with retrospectives of her work.
