Jane Badler is an American-Australian actress and singer best known for her iconic role as the villainous alien leader Diana in the 1980s NBC science-fiction series V.
Jane Badler was born on December 31, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York City. She is 72 years old. She is of Galician Jewish descent. She spent part of her youth in Great Neck, New York, and later moved to Manchester, New Hampshire, during high school.
When she was 18, her father and one of her brothers were killed in a small plane crash. She won the title of Miss New Hampshire and competed in the Miss America pageant (around 1972–1973). She studied drama at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She began singing at a young age and performed professionally in clubs while in school and college.
Badler began her professional acting career in daytime television. She played Melinda Cramer Janssen on the soap opera One Life to Live (1977–1981, with a brief return in 1983) and also appeared on The Doctors.
Her breakthrough came in 1983 when she was cast as Diana, the ruthless and glamorous leader of the alien Visitors, in the NBC miniseries V. She reprised the role in V: The Final Battle (1984) and the subsequent weekly series (1984–1985). The character became a cult icon, and Badler is widely remembered for the role’s intensity and memorable scenes.
In the mid-to-late 1980s she appeared on Falcon Crest (as Meredith Braxton) and guest-starred on shows such as Murder, She Wrote. She joined the 1988 revival of Mission: Impossible (filmed in Australia) as Agent Shannon Reed. After relocating to Australia she continued acting, including a role on the soap Neighbours and other Australian television projects. She also returned as Diana in the later seasons of the 2009–2011 V reboot.
