Stella Stevens began her career as a model and won the Miss Memphis title, which led to a pictorial in 1960. Her breakthrough comedic role came opposite Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor (1963).

She appeared in major films of the 1960s and 1970s, including The Silencers (1966), How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life (1968), The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), and the disaster classic The Poseidon Adventure (1972). Stella Stevens was married once, to Herman Stephens from 1954 to 1957. They had one son, actor/producer Andrew Stevens (born 1955). She never remarried but had several high-profile relationships.
